Ontario Data Centres is a free, independent public resource tracking data centre developments across Ontario. It covers operational, under construction, and proposed facilities, the regulatory frameworks governing them, facility types, and where public disclosure gaps exist.
There is no centralized provincial database of data centre developments in Ontario. Information is scattered across municipal planning documents, corporate announcements, environmental registry filings, and regulatory applications. This resource exists to bring that information together in one place so residents, municipal planners, policymakers, and anyone who wants to understand what is happening with Ontario's digital infrastructure can access it clearly and freely.
This resource was created by Katie, a resident of Ontario who saw a significant gap in how AI infrastructure is currently handled in the province. Katie is not anti-AI and not anti-data centre. She is pro-transparency and pro-responsible development. She uses AI regularly and acknowledges its importance to the economy. Her concern is that development of this scale happens with proper zoning oversight, community consultation, environmental safeguards, and public accountability.
Ontario Data Centres does not take a position for or against data centres or AI infrastructure. It takes a position in favour of transparency, informed public participation, and regulatory frameworks that reflect the realities of modern hyperscale development. We believe communities deserve access to clear, accurate information about what is being proposed in their neighbourhoods and what protections exist — or don't exist.
Primary sources are always preferred: municipal planning documents, city council records, IESO filings, government announcements, and official corporate press releases. Secondary sources are used when primary sources are unavailable and are noted as such. We do not publish specific claims without a verifiable source. When information is preliminary, unconfirmed, or subject to change, we say so clearly. When in doubt, we omit rather than speculate.
We use AI tools to assist with research, writing, and organization. The website itself was built using Replit, an AI-powered development platform. However, every fact, figure, and claim on this website is independently researched and verified against primary sources. AI does not determine what gets published. Human judgment and source verification do. If you spot an error or have a correction, please submit it through our tip form and we will investigate promptly.
Ontario Data Centres is actively expanding. If you have information about a proposed, announced, or operational data centre facility in Ontario that is not yet listed here, we want to hear from you. Use the tip submission form on our website. All tips are reviewed and verified before publication.
